About Us
Michele Spencer, MA, CCC-SLP
I am licensed to practice speech-language therapy in the state of Washington and hold my ESA certification for working in the public schools. I graduated summa cum laude from Washington State University in 1988 with Bachelor and Master degrees in Speech and Hearing Sciences. I received my Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in 1989 and have been a member ever since. I also have an associate’s degree with an emphasis in Early Childhood Development.
Before starting my own practice, I worked at a private pediatric clinic in Bellevue with children ages 2-16 years with diagnoses including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Central Auditory Processing Disorder, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome and dyslexia. Focus of therapy included (but not limited to) speech sound remediation, auditory and reading comprehension, written expression, personal and story narrative generation, grammar/syntax, use of augmentative communication devices, executive function, and social skills. Previously, I contracted to Group Health, providing diagnostic and therapy services for both children and adults in Bellevue, Renton, and Federal Way. I have also worked in Bremerton at a rehabilitation medicine clinic, serving adults and children after traumatic brain injury or stroke.
I received training in the Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol in 2015 to address students’ articulation/apraxia needs. I’ve also attended online courses taught by Edythe Strand of the Mayo Clinic on the topic of childhood apraxia of speech, as well as phonological skills courses taught by Barbara Hodson. I am passionate about continuing education, participating in online courses or reading books and articles on a continual basis. I believe it’s vital to stay current on evidence-based practices to use in therapy for the best outcomes. In May 2020, I received ASHA’s ACE award for clocking 70+ hours of courses in a 3 year period.
Born and raised in Washington State, I have lived in Woodinville with my husband for 30 years. When not working, I enjoy long walks with my dog Bailey, working in the garden, kayaking, hiking, quilting, and lots and lots of reading.
